NetSuite SuiteCommerce 101: How E-Commerce Software Will Elevate Your Business

NetSuite's native e-commerce platform seamlessly ties back-office operations with your customer-facing web store.

A woman uses NetSuite SuiteCommerce software to run her business.

NetSuite Cloud ERP handles the entire back end of an online retail business—from accounting to procurement to inventory management. But what about the front end? What manages customer experience and order placement? What handles Google Analytics and social sharing?

Enter NetSuite SuiteCommerce.

This software is, essentially, an e-commerce ERP module that seamlessly integrates with the rest of the system. It also works as a fully functioning online shop that pulls data from the ERP. So, you can track and manage orders from a single platform, along with manufacturing, inventory, shipping, accounting, and more.

Benefits of NetSuite SuiteCommerce

  • The software integrates natively with NetSuite, so you don’t have to pay for costly integrations with third-party programs, such as Magento or Shopify.
  • All company data is available to any employee with permission to access it. For example, a staff member can pull sales, product, inventory, or any other information—using only one log-in. They also have access to dashboards, reports, and analytics.
  • There’s no need for separate B2B and B2C e-commerce sites. Instead, you can manage them on one platform.
  • The unification of your front- and back-end systems mean you can leave tedious manual processes and integrations behind.
  • Employees can access system data and analytics or generate content on any device—from anywhere. So, your staff has the flexibility to work from home.
  • You’ll save on operational costs because you won’t need to pay multiple people to manage multiple systems.
  • Your inventory management will improve because your e-commerce website will sync with inventory and price data. Customer satisfaction will rise after NetSuite centralizes your order management.
  • You’ll start filling orders more quickly and efficiently, making your entire company more productive.

Two Types of SuiteCommerce

NetSuite businesses can power their e-commerce websites with SuiteCommerce or SuiteCommerce Advanced. The difference between the two mostly lies in the amount of control they give users.

SuiteCommerce Standard

Released in 2018, SuiteCommerce Standard has become the main choice for NetSuite e-commerce. It’s an easy-to-use, more affordable platform that uses drag-and-drop editing and pre-designed templates. It also features SEO compatibility and integrations with Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager. And it facilitates easy upselling, social-sharing, cross-selling, customized pricing, and marketing.

And although SuiteCommerce Advanced is built for customization, the standard version also allows users to adjust the software to their needs. The capability is just limited.

SuiteCommerce Advanced

SuiteCommerce Advanced came out in 2012—before SuiteCommerce Standard. And it includes all of SuiteCommerce Standard’s features plus others that offer more control over the platform.

In fact, SuiteCommerce Advanced gives users unrestricted access to the source code so they can customize the platform from top to bottom. It also allows companies to manage multiple channels under the same brand. And it includes manual updates instead of the automatic ones received with SuiteCommerce Standard. So, you can use SuiteCommerce Advanced any way you wish—if you have an IT team who can manage it.

SuiteCommerce Advanced’s unique features include:

  • Ability to manage multiple brands, languages, currencies, and languages with one platformSupport for multiple taxes, international shipping prices, and customs documentationExtensions for new site features and functionalitiesUnification with NetSuite inventory and order management, ERP, and CRM
  • Product comparisons, faceted navigation, alternative images, elastic site search, and the ability to save shopping carts and create listsGuest checkout

As with ERPs, SuiteCommerce Standard and SuiteCommerce Advanced are complex systems. They can certainly boost your company’s operation—if you implement them correctly. If you don’t, they’ll only add to your headaches.
