Case Study: Esusu's Journey to Financial Efficiency

No company can maximize its impact without the right tools.

No matter how revolutionary a business is, it can't make a significant impact without the right tools.

Esusu, a financial health company, understands this.

Esusu recently partnered with SuiteDynamics to implement a
ZoneBilling system that integrated with its NetSuite Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, smoothing financial operations. SuiteDynamics experts regularly work with companies to evaluate their systems and implement custom NetSuite software, fixing the critical issues holding their businesses back from success.

The Client

Esusu is transforming financial access for renters and improving property performance for owners and operators across the United States. Headquartered in New York, this innovative fintech company has developed specialized solutions for rent reporting and data analytics in the rental housing market.

The company's mission is simple: to dismantle housing barriers for working families by helping renters achieve financial stability and growth. Its efforts create a win-win not only for renters but also for owner/operators, providing a comprehensive guide for the entire financial journey. For renters, Esusu helps report on-time rent payments to credit bureaus, building credit histories that might otherwise be difficult to establish. The company also helps property managers optimize returns while fostering positive tenant relationships.

With these dual-purpose goals, Esusu bridges the gap between renters seeking financial inclusion and property managers looking to enhance their operations with data-driven insights.

The Problem

Esusu's financial operations were bogged down by a fragmented and labor-intensive billing process that involved multiple platforms. The company's workflow first captured contract information in Salesforce, transferred it to an internal tracking system, and then routed the data through Cashflow360 for billing. This convoluted approach created inefficiencies, increased error risks, and required significant and time-consuming manual intervention.

As the business grew, Esusu needed a centralized financial operation that matched the strengths of its existing system.

Tawana Muchatuta, a consultant to Esusu, found the answer to the company’s problems in an unlikely place.

“Funny enough, Reddit was what sold it for me,” he says. “Lots of good reviews on Reddit, and we then did an exploratorial call with Zone, and I think the rest is sort of history.”

The company decided to integrate ZoneBilling with its current NetSuite ERP system to consolidate billing processes and add crucial revenue recognition features.

Esusu also wanted to implement this new system while preserving its established Salesforce integration, which was essential for sales and customer relationship management. The company needed a solution that solidified its financial operations without disrupting established workflows and data-capture methods, so it turned to SuiteDynamics for help.

The Solution

SuiteDynamics delivered a custom ZoneBilling implementation that addressed Esusu's complex billing needs while enhancing its overall financial operations. Experts built the solution using several key components that worked together to create a unified system:

  • Custom revenue configuration designed specifically for Esusu's innovative platform
  • Tailored forms that matched the company's business processes
  • Automated transaction workflows that reduced manual intervention
  • Seamless integration with the existing Salesforce implementation
  • Automated invoice creation
  • Revenue recognition set directly to Advanced Revenue Management

The implementation began on September 27, 2024, with an initial go-live target in early February 2025. However, midway through the project, Esusu and SuiteDynamics pivoted to establish revenue recognition capabilities alongside billing instead of doing so during a planned phase two. Our team quickly adjusted to deliver both components at once and help the client maximize long-term value.

The SuiteDynamics team extended the timeline by 17 days to accommodate the expanded scope while still ensuring system reliability. This new deadline allowed for thorough billing and revenue recognition component testing.

Our team also worked closely with ZoneBilling manufacturer Zone & Co throughout the implementation, maximizing available expertise for the client.

"Teaming up with Zone & Co was a game-changer for us," says Amber Winter, SuiteDynamics Chief Revenue Officer. "It was like combining two puzzle pieces perfectly—Zone & Co brought their specialized ZoneBilling know-how while we contributed our deep NetSuite implementation experience. Together, we created the perfect solution for Esusu's complicated needs. This tag-team approach meant Esusu got top-tier expertise for both their NetSuite setup and the ZoneBilling integration."

On Esusu’s part, its team enjoyed a particularly close partnership with SuiteDynamics experts throughout the implementation, developing personal relationships that propelled the project forward.

“We had a really great time,” Muchatuta says. “I think it was nice to deep dive and solve the problems together. …  That was enjoyable to have as an experience, and everyone on the team was super pleasant, always helpful and respectful, I think, across the board.”

The finished solution significantly streamlined Esusu's billing processes, automating workflows that previously required manual intervention.

The Result

The ZoneBilling implementation went remarkably well and delivered immediate value to Esusu's operations. The new system has streamlined the company's financial processes with comprehensive automation and reduced the manual intervention that previously consumed Esusu's resources.

“We are now able to catch a lot of gaps, some old billings that should have been billed, some corrections of errors in terms of billings, as well, just because we're now getting the data in, not manually but automatically, “ Tawana Muchatuta explains. “And that is a result of the project itself. In terms of Zone, it's allowing us to do [revenue recognition] in NetSuite rather than on a rev rec workbook, which has been manual. … This is a lot easier for the controllers and the team and Finance to do because it’s all now automated.”

The most transformative outcome has been the consolidation of billing and revenue recognition within a single platform. By bringing these critical accounting functions into NetSuite, Esusu gains a centralized system that provides greater visibility and control over its financial operations. The automated workflows between billing and revenue recognition can seamlessly handle processes that once required multiple steps across different platforms.

With manual intervention reduced to a minimum, Esusu's staff can now focus their expertise on strategic initiatives rather than routine data entry and cross-platform reconciliation. This operational efficiency supports continued growth and strengthens the company's ability to scale its mission and help renters build credit through on-time payments.
